Q. What products are recalled?

A. U and U+ Window Air Conditioners made by Midea and sold under the following brand names Midea, Comfort Aire, Danby, Frigidaire, Insignia, Keystone, LBG Products, Mr. Cool, Perfect Aire and Sea Breeze. The affected model numbers for each brand are listed below. Pooled water in the air conditioners may fail to drain quickly enough, which may lead to mold growth. Mold exposure poses risks of respiratory issues or other infections to some consumers

Q. Why is Midea conducting this recall?

A. Midea is voluntarily recalling the air conditioners because pooled water in the air conditioners can fail to drain quickly enough, which can lead to mold growth. Mold exposure poses risk of respiratory issues or other infections to some consumers. Midea is providing a refund or repair to remedy the potential concern.


Q. Have there been any reported incidents or injuries with the air conditioners?

A. Consumers have reported at least 152 reports of mold in the air conditioners, including 17 reports of consumers experiencing symptoms such as respiratory infections, allergic reactions, coughing, sneezing, and/or sore throats from mold exposure.


Q. What should I do?

A. Consumers with the recalled air conditioners should immediately contact Midea for a refund or repair. The refund can be a full or prorated refund, depending on the age of the unit. Consumers who continue using the air conditioners while awaiting a repair should visit click here for instructions on how to inspect their unit prior to continuing use.


Q. How can I tell if my air conditioner is recalled?

A. This recall involves U and U+ Smart Window Air Conditioners made by Midea and sold in brand names including Midea, Comfort Aire, Danby, Frigidaire, Insignia, Keystone, LBG Products, Mr. Cool, Perfect Aire and Sea Breeze. The air conditioners were sold in three sizes of cooling power: 8,000, 10,000 and 12,000 BTU. The air conditioners are white and are about 22 inches wide, 13.5 inches tall, and 19 inches deep. The brand name is printed on the units. The model number can be found on a label on the front right side of the unit when facing the air conditioner. The air conditioners were sold with remote controls and can be controlled by a mobile app. The affected model numbers for each brand are listed in the table included above in the response to “What products are recalled?”


Q. How can I take advantage of the recall?

A. Midea toll-free at 888-345-0256 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, email at midea4028@midea.com , online at www.MideaUrecall.expertinquiry.com or www.midea.com/us and click on “RECALL INFORMATION” for more information.


Q. How long will it take to receive my refund?

A. Refunds will typically be processed within 3-4 weeks of completing the refund process, although the time period may vary.


Q. How long will it take to receive my repair?

A. DIY Repair Kits for units with a drain plug will typically be delivered within 2–3 weeks of completing the registration process, although the time period may vary depending on your location.

For consumers who opt for an in-home technician a repair recall remedy, Midea will contact you within 5 working days after you complete the registration process, to schedule a date for the in-home technician visit.


Q. My air conditioner appears to be operating okay. Can I continue to use it?

A. Consumers who have one of the listed models should participate in the recall immediately. Consumers who continue using the air conditioners while awaiting a repair should visit click here for instructions on how to inspect their unit prior to continuing use.


Q. Are you recalling other products?

A. No, this recall is only for the U and U+ Window Air Conditioners with model numbers identified in the table included above in the response to “What products are recalled?”


Q. I received my air conditioner as a gift. Should I also participate in the recall?

A. Yes. All consumers with a recalled air conditioner can participate, regardless of how they obtained the air conditioner by contacting Midea toll-free at 888-345-0256 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, email at midea4028@midea.com , online at www.MideaUrecall.expertinquiry.com or www.midea.com/us and click on “RECALL INFORMATION” for more information.


Q. What if I sold or gifted the air conditioner to someone else? Should I notify them about the recall?

A. Yes, if you sold or gifted a recalled air conditioner to someone, you should notify them of the recall and tell them to participate by contacting Midea toll-free at 888-345-0256 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, email at midea4028@midea.com , online at MideaUrecall.expertinquiry.com or www.midea.com/us and click on “RECALL INFORMATION” for more information.


Q. I no longer have the receipt for the product. Can I still participate in the recall?

A. Yes. You can still participate in the recall and receive either a refund, a prorated refund, or repair without a receipt or proof of purchase.


Q. Can I take my air conditioner back to the store/place where I purchased it from to get a refund or repair?

A. No, please do not return your air conditioner to the store. Refunds and repairs will be sent by Midea after refund or repair requests are completed.


Q. Will I be able to repair the unit myself?

A. If you want to repair the unit yourself and your unit already has a drain plug, we will provide complete written instructions in a repair kit. Instructional videos will also be available online. In addition, Midea is offering free technical assistance for any customer who needs additional support.


Q. I chose the refund option, what should I do with the product?

A. Upon contacting Midea, the company will instruct you to either (1) unplug the product, cut the power cord, and write “Recalled” on the product, submit photographic evidence of doing so, and dispose of it in accordance with your local waste disposal requirements; or (2) return the unit to Midea using a free pre-paid label.


Q. I have an issue with a different Midea product, what do I do?

A. Please contact our Customer Service Team at customerserviceusa@midea.com or by phone at 866-646-4332 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET Saturday, and we’d be happy to help.


Q. What if I'm a business or reseller?

A. The recalled air conditioners are illegal to sell. Contact your Midea sales representative to discuss the remedies available to distributors, resellers, and other parties.


Q. What if I have more than seven air conditioners?

A. If you are in possession of more than seven air conditioners, please contact Midea at 888-345-0256 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday to discuss the remedies available to distributors, resellers, and other parties.
